20 Year’s Ago We All Learned a New Catchphrase: “Show me the money”

    By Robin Russell | Social Media | Comments are Closed | 20 December, 2016 | 0

Who remembers a time when “Show me the money” and “You had me at hello” wasn’t part of the American vernacular? Well it’s been exactly 20 years since those two iconic statements became part of our common language when Jerry Maguire premiered in December 1996.

Christmas is a perfect time to watch the “enduring  pop culture staple” starring Tom Cruise, Renee Zellweger and Cuba Gooding, Jr. Directed by Cameron Crowe, Jerry Maguire was a box-office sensation grossing more than $270 million and was nominated for five Academy awards winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Goodings performance.

Gooding is wonderful and Zelleger is perfectly charming, but it’s Tom Cruise who is the star! He was perfect as that lovable loser, Jerry Maguire, a slick sports agent who has an epiphany finding himself and religion, leading him on a journey toward true success and true love. And in the end, Jerry Maguire showed us the money.
