Jake Hoot impressed thousands of viewers and The Voice coach Kelly Clarkson with his performance of “When It Rains It Pours” by Luke Combs. He continued capturing hearts and gaining fans (who are called “Hooters”) all season long, and in December 2019 he became the season 18 winner of the show.
Hoot has had a busy year following his The Voice victory. He’s released four singles that have all landed him on the US Country charts, he made his debut at the legendary Grand Ole Opry, and has most recently announced a (now sold-out) show in Nashville to celebrate the January release of his debut EP. On top of all that, he’s continued raising his 5-year-old daughter May, and became engaged to girlfriend Brittney Nicole Hoyt.
His most recent single is a unique rendition of “La Bamba”, inspired by the years he spent in the Dominican Republic as a kid. He told Taste Of Country, “”La Bamba” is such a timeless song, one that’s been covered by some incredible artists over the years, and now I am so honored to finally fulfill one of my dreams and put my own spin on it.” The single was recorded in collaboration with fellow Voice contestant Ricky Duran, and even features background vocals from other Voice alums Gracie Shriver, Zoe Upkins, Jordan McCullough, Alex Guthrie, Max Boyle, and Jordan Chase.
Throughout it all, Hoot has continuously expressed gratitude for both The Voice and his coach Kelly Clarkson. Though he was a singer-songwriter for years, it was always an extracurricular in his life as a college football player-turned zinc miner-turned radio sales executive. It was his time on the show that showed his talent to the world and jump started his full-time career as a professional musician.
We here at Scenes were so lucky to have Jake perform a Scenes Live Session with us back in April, and we can’t wait to hear his debut EP come January! Watch his performance below:
