Season Two of Netflix’s glittering, history-laden series The Crown won’t unroll until December. But the network is offering teasers. The Huffington Post reports:
The first trailer for the second season of Netflix’s acclaimed drama “The Crown” was released Thursday ― and all is not well in the monarchy. Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) is going through prime ministers like candy, waging an illegal war in Egypt and facing opposition at home from husband Prince Philip (Matt Smith).
The Hollywood Reporter noted a major departure from the show’s cast:
While Claire Foy and Matt Smith return as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, respectively, John Lithgow will not be reprising his award-winning turn as Winston Churchill in the show’s second season, which was announced before the first season premiered last November.
That cast is certainly stellar. Variety reported back in July that in addition to a “Best Series” nomination, The Crown saw stars Claire Foy and John Lithgow nominated for Emmy Awards.
Ms. Foy did an interview with W magazine where she talked about screen-testing for that series while hugely pregnant, and discusses what it’s like to play a youthful version of a still living, reigning, real-life queen.
