Felix Kjellberg (a.k.a. PewDiePie), one of YouTube’s most notorious personalities, lives by laughter but also takes “giving back” seriously. His production company exceeded $8 million in profit just recently, but he has also raised over $1 million for charity.
According to Todd Spangler in Variety, “PewDiePie, whose oeuvre centers in gameplay videos and sketch comedy, is the No. 1 most-subscribed YouTube creator with more than 46 million followers. But PewDiePie in past interviews has complained about YouTube’s economics.
YouTube takes a 45% share of ad revenue and multichannel network partners take a 50% split of the remaining pie. PewDiePie is affiliated with Disney’s Maker Studios.
Meanwhile, PewDiePie has leveraged his large online fanbase to raise more than $1 million over the last several years for various charities, including Charity: Water and Save the Children.
Earlier this year, he announced plans to launch Revelmode in partnership with Maker Studios, an entertainment network featuring original scripted series starring gaming personalities. Part of Revelmode’s charter is philanthropic, encouraging fans to donate funds to various social causes.
Revelmode recently promoted a campaign for Crisis Text Line, providing the “Humble Bundle,” a free bundle of video games as an incentive for donations. Crisis Text Line provides professional crisis counseling through text messaging to anyone dealing with depression, eating disorders, bullying or any other kind of crisis.
Twitter fans appreciated the #humblebundle, saying:
In the matchup of #Starbound vs. #HumbleBundle, I had to go with HB. Too many games I don’t have, and some duplicates to give away! #Twitch

They say that “laughter is the best medicine”–which PewDiePie certainly supplies. The $1 million he’s generated to support charities in need is a powerful potion, too.
