U.P.S. CEO, David Abney, Worked Way Up from Night Job

I just sent a package next day air to Nashville, Tennessee. It will leave our little town in Texas later this afternoon, and it’s supposed to arrive at its destination before 10:30 tomorrow morning. We have all gotten used to this kind of service and take for granted the hundreds of men and women who make these things possible. On the way home, I had to smile, because I had just read about the CEO of the company. I like his story and want to share it with you.

David Abney grew up in small town Greenwood, Mississippi (population 16,000) where his dad sold insurance and his mom was a homemaker. When he was in college and needed money to take his girlfriend out on weekends, he got a night job loading packages at the local UPS depot. After graduation, he stayed with the company, taking every sort of job in the organization from delivery man to being a supervisor to heading the international division.  After 40 years, he was promoted to CEO.

I love a true story like this of a great company and a man who has experienced the American Dream? Click here if you are curious to know more.
