The Secret Life of Taylor Swift

    By Robin Russell | Culture | Comments are Closed | 18 May, 2017 | 0

Taylor Swift led a secret life in 2017. She all but disappeared from public view since her pre-Super Bowl Concert in February. In fact, USA Today reported February 5 that the mega superstar said as much to the 9,000-person crowd in Houston that they were attending her only scheduled performances in 2017.

“As far as I know I’m only doing one show in 2017, and as far as I know, this is that show. By coming to this show tonight, you are attending 100% of this year’s tour dates,” Swift said.

But it’s more than that. The star seemed to be living completely under the radar. The Washington Post stated it best in a report filed today.

Afterward [her February concert], her radio silence was immediate. No red carpets, no strolls down the streets of New York, no paparazzi photo shoots while leaving the gym. There was even a social media blackout, save for two Instagram posts to plug new singles from her friends Lorde and the band Haim. Swift was far off the grid, unusual for a superstar usually so thoroughly present in the public consciousness.

Hmmm. So what was up with Taylor Swift? Where was she and what was she doing those days? It’s all quite secretive. Well, maybe not all that secret.

The gossips were out in force, and, once in a while, a few juicy tidbits were subtly dropped by friends. For instance, Ed Sheeran let it slip in an interview with the BBC on March 2 that Swift would probably be releasing an album by the end of the year.

“Entertainment Tonight” reported in April 2017 that Swift was working in Nashville and then a report via a radio station in Connecticut that Swift’s new music was less pop and more country surfaced. It was all very tantalizing stuff. But then the news began to take on a different flavor.

“People Magazine” published a story May 11 titled “Inside Taylor Swift’s ‘Conscious Choice’ to Disappear and Focus on Her New Music.” The story tells a little more about what’s actually going on with the music singing sensation.

“Taylor made the conscious choice to disappear,” says a source. “She was feeling overexposed and like things were almost spiraling out of control. She’s being low-key and secretive [right now] because it makes her happy.”

Actor Joe Alwyn secretly recorded a phone call between Taylor Swift and Kanye West. The listening, recording and release of it on the internet are gross invasions of privacy.

Perhaps that overexposure came from her high profile romance with actor Tom Hiddleston for which she was mocked. Then there was the horrible business of the Taylor Swift-Kanye West-Kim Kardasian Snapchat incident of 2016. The illegal and privacy invading incident. The Washington Post filed a report in July 2016 to which I happily direct you for the sordid details, click here.

It’s no wonder Swift felt her life spinning out of control and going underground was simply a way of stepping back, untangling from the quagmire and regaining control. I don’t know about you, but I admire her disappearing act.

What was next in the secret life of Taylor Swift? In addition to a new country album “probably” due out later this year, Swift had a new beau — up-and-coming British actor Joe Alwyn. In honor of her privacy, that’s all I’m going to say — for now. If you’re desperate to learn more, click here.

What is the nature of occult’s influence on rock and roll? According to the book Season of the Witch: How the Occult Saved Rock and Roll by Peter Berbegal, the occult expanded the language and sound of rock and roll, and was more about theater and fun than the diabolical. It’s a good argument, although not entirely convincing.
