Viola Davis is the quintessential actress and one of the most prolificly-honored actresses of all time. She has been nominated 101 times for various awards, winning 78! She’s the only African-American to be nominated for three Oscars. Her first Oscar win this year for Best Supporting Actress for Fences gives her yet another singular title. She has become the first black actress or actor to win the incomparable Triple Crown of Acting. And while we are moved by this lovely woman’s performances, we were moved further still by her grace and emotional acceptance of her Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards.
Viola gives a lot of thanks via Facebook.
- Post #1 – I look around and God has blessed my life in abundance. Thank you to the academy!
- Post #2 – Thanks to all the amazing people who made me look fabulous tonight!
- Post #3 – My family. thank you everyone for your love and support!
It wasn’t just her declaration of thankfulness or her Armani gown that crowned her queen of the night. It was, indeed, her acceptance speech. I believe it moved and empowered many. This speech is what America needed to hear.
“I can’t believe my life. I grew up in poverty. I always sort of wanted to be somebody, I just wanted to be good at something. So, this is sort of like the miracle of God, of dreaming big and just hoping that it sticks and it lands and it did. I’m overwhelmed.”
Viola knows how to leave everyone in tears. Apparently, her speeches are as good as the talents for which she receives awards!
