This Famous Female Rapper Skipped Historic American Music Award Win For a Dentist Appointment

    By Chloe Paglia | Music, Pop | Comments are Closed | 24 November, 2020 | 6
Cardi B made history this weekend when she won the “Favorite Song – Rap/Hip Hop” at the American Music Awards for the second time. This year, the rapper took home the trophy for her hit single with Megan Thee Stallion, “WAP.” Her previous “Favorite Song – Rap/Hip Hop” victory was for 2018’s “Bodak Yellow.” But that’s not all, the star also won “Artist – Rap/Hip Hop” in both 2018 and 2019.

Despite her previous success at the AMAs, Cardi wasn’t expecting to win any awards this year.

So much so, that she didn’t even attend! She skipped the show entirely, and used that free time to take care of some dental work. (And good on her, health comes first!)

After the win was announced, she tweeted to her 15M followers: “Thank you guys soooo much. Me and Meg really appreciate all the love from fans, celebs everybody that supported the song. Also thanks for voting. Ugh if I would have known all this was going down today I would [have] rescheduled my dentist appointment. Im so swollen ??”

In addition to the text, she attached a video message to the tweet where she said this: “Hey guys, it’s ya girl Cardi B. I just want to say thank you guys for voting, you guys voted for this win for WAP. It really meant so much to me and Megan, the way you guys supported this so much” and went on to also say,  “I wish I would’ve known that I was going to get an AMAs or something, I wouldn’t have … went to the dentist… Now I’m … talking all crazy. But I just wanted to say thank you everybody. I love you so much.”

Congratulations to Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion on their win, and kudos for representing women and getting recognition in such a male dominated genre!
