We’re looking forward to live shows as much as anyone, and we’ve eagerly been awaiting 2021 in hopes of a return to touring and festival normalcy.
But according to Lollapalooza co-founder Marc Geiger, musicians and music lovers shouldn’t get their expectations too high just yet.
“In my humble opinion, it’s going to be ’22,” Geiger stated on The Bob Lefsetz Podcast. “It’s going to take that long before what I call the ‘germaphobia economy’ to be slowly killed off and be replaced by what I call the ‘claustrophobia economy,’ which is where everybody wants to go out and go back to dinner and have their life and go to festivals and go to shows.”
A big contributor to his prediction is the lack of COVID insurance coverage for festivals and music events. This causes a liability issue for the show organizers and can get very messy very quickly.
