If you’re looking for something romantic or just plain fun to do on Valentine’s Day and/or the weekend leading up to Cupid’s favorite day, here’s something you may find to your (and your sweetheart’s) liking. Fathom Events announces that An Affair to Remember is returning to the big screen for Valentine’s Day and for it’s 60th anniversary. It is, after all, one of the most memorable romances and love stories ever told on the big screen. In fact, it was named #5 Most Romantic Movie Ever by the American Film Institute.
Of course, it stars Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr, our two lovers who meet by chance on a cruise, fall in love, and agree, at the end of the cruise, to meet in six months at the Empire State Building (“the nearest thing to heaven!”). As we all know, Fate steps in and prevents our lovers from meeting on that fateful day. But the gods are not entirely cruel. Our lovers rediscover one another and it’s not long before the broken-hearted Nickie Ferrant (Cary) learns why the love of his life, Terry McKay (Kerr) missed their date with destiny.
An Affair to Remember, which premiered in 1957, has been a favorite among movie-watchers for generations and the inspiration for Sleepless in Seattle, starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Though their story was altogether different, they finally have their fateful date with destiny and each other at none other than the Empire State Building. One thing both movies don’t exactly confirm but certainly allude to is both couples live happily-ever-after.
An Affair to Remember is in select theaters around the country, February 12-15. To find a theater near you that is playing this timeless romantic melodrama, go to fathomevents.com and look up theaters using your zip code.
Whether you and your sweetheart love this movie or not (c’mon, of course you do!), it’s a classic and there is nothing like seeing a classic on the big screen!
