The War and Treaty Finds a Joyful Sound Even in Dark Times

    By Mary Gibson | Music | 1 comment | 22 July, 2020 | 2
The War and Treaty consists in a husband and wife duo, Michael and Tanya Trotter. They combine the blues, Southern gospel, and rock n’ roll into an eclectic and joyful sound. Their live shows are as exuberant as revivals, and they have opened for Al Green and toured with Jason Isbell and Brandi Carlisle.

The duo is set to release their sophomore album, “Hearts Town,” in September of 2020, with its debut single, “Five More Minutes” out now. The song is a lover’s cry of passion; if there’s just five more minutes, let me spend them loving you. It opens up with a brass intro that will get you dancing even before Tanya sets the song’s hook with her powerhouse voice.

Michael recounts the song’s dark origin. “After years of falling in and out of financial and mental depression, I had finally had enough. I was ready to take my own life. But in my darkest moment, where I was ready right then and there to end it all, my wife Tanya asked one last thing of me: ‘Just give me five more minutes. Stay with me. Just five more minutes to love you.’ And something in her eyes, something in her hands convinced me to give her that five more minutes.”

This album is a much anticipated follow up to their debut album in 2018 that was critically acclaimed and earned them the “Emerging Act of the Year” award by the Americana Music Association.

The War and Treaty are self-described as “just two lovebirds singing without reverb.” No phrase could more succinctly sum up the vibrant Nashville band. Check out “Five More Minutes” on all streaming platforms, and the music video on YouTube, which is linked below! We can’t wait to hear what’s on the rest of the album on September 25.
