Chandler Stephens’ Country Take on Don Henley Classic, “Boys of Summer”

    By Mary Gibson | Music | Comments are Closed | 21 July, 2020 | 2

Chandler Stephens is a country music artist who has been singing virtually since she could talk. Her favorite artists were country music greats such as Loretta Lynn or Johnny Cash, and as a girl she began singing country hits at live shows in her home state of Florida.

Chandler grew up in a unique household, greatly influencing her life and music. She is a member of a family of 18, with her parents adopting 14 children throughout her life. It was this unconventional family, with its vastly different personalities, that shaped Chandler’s own character and her approach to music.

At the age of 19, Chandler packed up her car and moved to Nashville to officially pursue music. She found success in country music with singles such as “Can’t Stop Love,” a duet with Kane Brown and “This Is My Life.” Now at the age of 26, she is a wife and mother and ready to release new music with a more mature point-of-view.

“This new music has definitely progressed to another level as I have reached these milestones of motherhood and marriage. My songs are like bookmarks for my life. I look back on each one to enjoy great memories or revisit lessons and heart aches that hopefully also speak to other people as well.”

Chandler Stephens is releasing her first EP since 2016 later on this year, with the lead single “The Boys of Summer.” If that title sounds familiar, it should—it’s Chandler’s Southern fried cover of the Don Henley original.

“When my producer, Dan Frizsell, and I were discussing recording the songs for the new EP, I had the 5 songs that I had co-written. I loved them all so much. But he felt like we needed a 6th song so I mentioned doing an older rock song and he immediately threw out ‘Boys of Summer.’ I knew it was perfect. Being raised in Florida and loving everything about the beach this song feels like the soundtrack of my growing up years. Taking on a Don Henley classic was a little scary but turned out to be one of the most inspiring things I have ever done. I want my music to have this kind of impact and longevity. Generations after generations know this song and love it which is the ultimate testament of what a great song ‘Boys of Summer’ is in any genre.”

“Boys of Summer” was released on July 17, and is available on all digital streaming platforms.
