Calling all EDM lovers: It’s finally time to break out the glitter make-up and Instagram-worthy outfits. From June 25-28th, Electric Blockaloo, “the biggest digital music festival in history,” is coming to a screen near you. (Probably the one you are holding right now.)
The EDM fest will take place inside the critically acclaimed videogame, Minecraft. Yes, you heard it right- the live stream will be inside a virtual world.
A show like no other, Electric Blockaloo will feature about 850 artists with 65 digitally-rendered stages. The line-up includes some of the biggest names in dance music: Steve Aoki, Galantis, Paris Hilton, Rudimental, Ekali, Diplo, Gryffin, Robin Shulz, and, if the hype is to be believed, hundreds more.
To enter the festival, you must be on the guest list. It’s a bit easier than trying to get into a nightclub—all you have to do is obtain the special links and access codes from the Electric Blockaloo artists’ social media pages. (But we’ll let you in on a little secret…you can find all the access codes right HERE).
After entering the link or code, admission fees depend on the experience of your choice. General Admission cover is $10 which provides access to all the main festival areas and stages. VIP access is an extra $15, giving you exclusive entry to secret VIP DJ sets, mini-games, and experiences, early entry into the festival, and more.
And if you really want to get the whole digital experience, you can pay another $5 to build your ultimate campsite virtually within the game.
“One of the biggest challenges for digital festivals is making sure that artists are compensated for the use of their music,” says Jackie McGuire, the CEO of festival organizer Rave Family. Because of this, the festival has partnered with Mixcloud to ensure over half of admission fees go directly back to the artists themselves.
Katie Bain from Billboard states that “five percent of festival revenue will benefit myriad causes, with attendees able to choose from charities including The Bail Project, which works to prevent incarceration and combat racial and economic inequalities in the bail system, Black Lives Matter, and ByeByePlastic, a campaign to remove single use plastics from the music industry.”
Electric Blockaloo will be revolutionary in the digital landscape. Trust us when we say you don’t want to miss out!
