In any other circumstances, Halloween would be amazing this year. It’s on a Saturday, it falls on a full moon, AND Daylight Savings means that you could stay up an extra hour whooping it up without losing any sleep. That sounds like a formula for a pretty epic Halloween if you ask me. But unfortunately, trick or treating has been canceled in many places and experts still don’t advise attending parties or gathering in large groups.
Luckily, a lot of musicians recognized this and threw virtual bashes for their fans. Latin artists in particular had some truly exciting virtual events for those that spent their holiday socially distancing.
The first party took place on Friday night, the day before Halloween and was hosted by Tecate. The beer brand kicked off Dia de Los Muertos with the second episode of their virtual concert series called “El Patio Tecate”. Their description of the event says “From Baja California to backyard patios all around the country, let’s toast to the Mexico that lives within us.” The lineup included Natalia Lafourcade, Tatiana Hazel, San Cha and Orange Calderón, and Chiquis Rivera. The show started at 6:00 PM PST, and was streamed on Tecate’s website, YouTube, Twitter or Facebook pages.
The next two events both took place on Halloween night, starting at 9:00 PM ET. The first was Fortnite’s annual “Fortnitemares” event, which included a performance by Columbian singer J Balvin. “Fortnitemares” appeared on the Houseparty app. The second event was SBS’ LaMusica Live concert, where Puerto Rican singer Lunay performed live from Miami. Fans watched on LaMusica’s app or on Lunay’s YouTube channel.
Last but not least, Puerto Rican rapper Rauw Alejandro threw a ticketed virtual live show for his fans, and here’s the twist…he streamed the performance from a haunted mansion in Miami! Very spooky. The only downside to these online parties was picking which to attend!
These artists came through and really made Halloween something to be excited about, but Billboard wants to know: in a dream world, which latin artist would you spend your Halloween night with?
