Nashville-based singer/songwriter Ben Fuller is a tour de force as a vocalist and a writer, with a voice like Bruce Springsteen and a playing style all his own. Over the past few years, Fuller has become a songwriter and performer to behold among a sea of top tier talent in Music City, with country songs that could rival anything topping the charts and lyrics that strive to inspire and carve a path towards a better and more spiritual world.
Fuller, who grew up on a dairy farm in the south of Vermont, took a long and difficult road to Christian country music. Following his own struggles with addiction, he lost a close friend to an overdose in 2017. This completely shook his world, changed his outlook, and set him on a journey towards newness and fulfillment in ways he hadn’t found before. What resulted from that journey is an honest and authentic sense of storytelling and song craft; one that is an expansion of Fuller’s mission to help those struggling with addiction find their way through song and spirit.
“Dirt Road to Nashville” is a standout example of Fuller’s staggering vocals and incredible knack for writing choruses that hook you with a wealth of emotion and musical integrity. But it’s the moving “Me & Katelyn” that really solidifies Fuller’s place as one of the great voices in country and contemporary Christian music. It’s the painful but necessary story of how Fuller learned about addiction through the lens of a relationship clouded by drugs and all that they rob from us.
Fuller’s latest single, “Find My Faith,” is the latest in a musical evolution that shows no signs of slowing. With just vocals and an acoustic guitar, the song paints an intimate portrait of Fuller’s song-centric journey to the faith that he holds so dear.
In addition to his growing body of work as a writer and performer, Fuller also runs a music-focused ministry and spends his time working with the Nashville Rescue Mission, The Beat of Life, Men of Valor, and Recovery Centers of America among other organizations. His ministry was born out of his first album, Witness, and has grown to become a crucial part of the work he does in music and beyond.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Fuller has been regularly going live from his home, sharing songs and stories with his fans on social media and even taking on the odd cover song from time to time (including a wonderful rendition of Chris Isaak’s classic “Wicked Game”). To put it simply: he’s been busy. Fuller hasn’t stopped moving forward, with his mission and a vision in mind.
Scenes’ partnership with Fuller for the Scenes House Sessions show presented Fuller in an unfiltered and powerful light, giving him the platform to spread his talents across a new audience. With a message and a body of work that needs to be heard, there’s no doubt that this is just one notch up in an upward journey for the veteran singer/songwriter.
