Legendary British rock band Queen and American pop singer Adam Lambert have topped the charts in the UK this week with their very first album together, a record of live performances titled Live Around The World . This marks Queen’s 10th time being number one on the charts, with their first time taking place almost 45 years ago with Night At The Opera.
Queen, who famously and tragically lost frontman Freddie Mercury in 1991, have been performing with American Idol season 8 runner up Adam Lambert since 2011. They have performed over 200 shows together, including awards shows, music festivals and stadiums across the globe. Live Around The World was released on October 2, and features 20 of the band’s favorite performances recorded everywhere from Tokyo in 2014 to Sydney in 2020.
The musicians spoke to OfficialCharts.com. Guitarist Brian May said, “Thank you folks for making us Number 1 after all these years. So Queen + Adam Lambert’s very first release is Number 1… amazing. God bless you all.”
Drummer Roger Taylor commented, “Number 1, my favourite number. It’s been 25 years since Queen have had a Number 1 album and it’s a thrill, still! Thanks to everybody who went out and bought it. I hope you love it and get a lot of kicks out of it.”
And finally, Adam Lambert said this about his first number 1 album in the UK, “I am beyond thrilled that we are Number 1!!!!!! As I always say, I am the luckiest person in the world to be able to work with Brian and Roger, and I’m so glad people are enjoying this album so much! The fact that we can celebrate the iconic music of Queen all these years later is incredible. We are hoping to be back on the road at venues across the globe again very soon!”
