The 2020 Billboard Music Awards aired on October 14 after being delayed earlier this year. By far, the biggest winner of the evening was rapper Post Malone, who took home nine awards at the end of the night. His wins include: Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Male Artist, Top Rap Tour, and Top Rap Album. The album in question is 2019’s Hollywood’s Bleeding, the rapper’s third studio album, which featured a whopping eight singles on the Billboard’s Hot 100 charts!
Because the show was rescheduled from its original April air date, many of the songs nominated weren’t brand new releases. For context, Billie Eilish won The Top Billboard 200 Album for When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? almost nine full months after she won the Grammy for Album Of The Year. One possible silver lining of this, according to Billboard, is that the show gave a noticeable boost to the sales and streams of music (including Post Malone’s!) that may have fallen out of many listeners’ regular rotations.
Though the show didn’t have an audience, it still took place at the beautiful Dolby Theatre and was led by veteran host Kelly Clarkson, which made it feel as normal as possible under the circumstances. Aside from seeing artists accept their awards, viewers got to watch great live performances from artists like Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Demi Lovato.
