In 2007, 15-year-old Joshua Lee Turner started a YouTube channel called “Josh Turner Guitar” where he posted covers of songs and original music. Fast forward to 2020, and Josh is a well-known artist with close to half a million subscribers and over 110 million total views.
Josh is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and producer based in Brooklyn, New York. He released his first album last year called “As Good a Place as Any” which was his first release of only original works. His music has been described as being reminiscent of the likes of Paul Simon, mixing the sounds of generations past with the lyrical complexity of today’s lives.
His cover of the Dire Straits’ “Sultans of Swing” went viral in 2012, which helped solidify Josh’s name on YouTube and in the music world. He was invited to play on Good Morning America in 2015, and even performed with Backstreet Boys’ Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell at their induction into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame later that same year.
Josh is releasing his sophomore album Public Life on August 7th, but fans can actually listen to the tracks a little earlier. Each week leading up to the official release, Josh is putting out the album track by track on his YouTube channel with a new song every Friday. This new album “blends 1970s sounds with 2020 contemplations of home, friendship, work, and social media.” This time around, Josh is doing everything himself. He is recording, mixing, mastering, and filming the album completely on his own in his apartment!
