Remember concerts? The live music beating through your chest. The feeling of the crowd around you, all swaying to the rhythm as one. Having a great time even from the nose-bleed seats because you’re happy just being in the same room as your favorite artist. There’s nothing like it.
However, in March of 2020, the live music scene was drastically changed. Artists started canceling tour dates left and right and, as touring is one of the main sources of income for musical acts, this was a very big deal. A pandemic shut down the world, so how could one keep the heartbeat of music alive? Bandsintown sought to answer that very question.
Bandsintown is a platform for music fans to be able to see concert dates for artists they follow. It’s also a platform for musical artists that allows them to interact with their fans directly. They can send their follower’s concert dates, merch store information, single releases, or just regular updates on their musical career. This platform was revolutionary in the way it allows artists and the public to interact with each other.
When it became apparent that the coronavirus was here to stay, Bandsintown rose to the challenge with the introduction of live streaming.
Live streaming has been essential during the global lockdown. Music demand and consumption was on the rise, and artists were stuck in their homes, unable to tour, so live streaming was the perfect solution to meet in the middle. Bandsintown was at the forefront of this movement, setting up their live streams long before other platforms.
Another move Bandsintown did was set up a channel on popular streaming platform Twitch, so they could host their own live streams as well. According to Rolling Stone, Bandsintown has hosted more than 250 artists on their channel in the last 45 days which has allowed even lesser-known artists to garner more than 100k views. In phase 2 of their plan, Bandsintown is planning virtual video meet and greets for artists and fans as well. Though still in the initial stages, it could be very successful and provide another stream of revenue for artists.
Although nothing can replace seeing your favorite artist in person, live streaming is definitely a close second. If you want to catch your favorite band live, check out Bandsintown for information on their live streaming schedule.
