Wakefield introduces “Cheap Whiskey and Bad Cocaine,” sung with girlfriend Jenny Leigh, and with Lauren Sachs accompanying on violin, as a true story, which means that like all things Adam Wakefield, the song is not boring.
Sach’s country violin rounds out the cool Nashville vibe, sincere and classic, like the Southern landscape that Wakefield sings about: “I know in my heart in heart I can be a star… I’ll be ridin’ high as a Georgia pine, on cheap whiskey and bad cocaine.”
In any case, if you watch at least five seconds of live music today on YouTube, make sure it’s this video from 3:37 to 3:42, and you can hear Wakefield’s old-soul country voice soar to new heights that make one remember why the other Adam (Levine) and Blake Shelton loved him enough to hit their buttons on his blind audition.
And until the next time Adam is back for SCENES Live Sessions, you can catch him on tour this summer and stay tuned for more new Wakefield music coming before 2018 is over. Details over at his newly overhauled website.
