Musical composition is an integral part of games, ads, television or film. Often, we don’t think much about the music that’s in the background of whatever media it is we are consuming. That is, we don’t think about if it is good. If it’s bad or ill-fitting, we are jarred and turned off by it. It can be an ingredient that leaves a less than pleasing taste on our palettes. A composer who is certainly contributing to the quality of media is Francisco Rivera. He has noted that he writes for media in hopes that he can make the listener feel something and from what I’ve discovered, has no difficulty accomplishing this feat. His composition The Seaside Railroad sounds as if you’re listening to the soundtrack of a trailer for an epic or action film in sections and a day at the park in others. With his mixture of instruments, splices with sound effects, dashes of techno as well as vocals he creates an ethereal and climactic listening experience. There’s no doubt that we’ll be hearing much more from him, and that we’ll be feeling far more satisfied with our viewer, and listening experience because of it.
