When a mainstream magazine or television outlet examines the life of Christ, I rarely pay attention. It seems each time they go on a “search” for the historical Jesus, they end up “finding” someone that I don’t recognize – and someone that certainly isn’t in the pages of Scripture. But a CNN series has me wanting to watch. The network’s second season of Finding Jesus: Faith, Fact and Forgery debuts Sunday, March 5 at 9 p.m. Eastern, examining religious artifacts supposedly tied to the Christian faith.
I come from a Protestant background and am naturally skeptical of artifacts (Sola scriptura!), yet I also enjoy history and the debates over what is fact.
The second season will examine:
- The childhood home of Jesus.
- The tomb of King Herod.
- The bones of St. Peter.
- Relics related to the Apostle Thomas.
- The Pilate stone.
- The tomb of Lazarus.
The trailer looks promising.
“It’s important to remember that this is a very real story with very real people,” an unseen person says.
