Everyone loves movies, and (mostly) everyone loves dogs. So, when a movie spotlighting dogs hits the box office – much like 2016’s Secret Life Of Pets – Hollywood already has a leg up (pardon the pun).
The latest dog-centric movie, A Dog’s Purpose, is scheduled to be released in theaters Jan. 27, telling the story of a dog named Baily (Josh Gad) who is reincarnated into other dogs, one after the other, touching multiple human lives. It also stars Dennis Quaid, Britt Robertson, K.J. Apa, and John Ortiz.
Rated PG for thematic elements and some peril, it is based on the bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron. Based on the trailer, it shows lots of promise as a solid family-friendly flick, although I might want to have a brief post-film chat with my kids about reincarnation being unbiblical. Still, dogs are one of God’s great gifts, and A Dog’s Purpose can be a celebration of just that. Universal also is partnering with the Best Friends Animal Society to raise awareness of dogs available for adoption.

This is a beautiful film and book. I’m glad you wrote on it! However, I will say, as an avid Cameron reader, the reincarnation is only a tool used by the author and not meant to be a focus. It is a touching story about human nature, love and destiny.
Cameron’s fans will be happy to see their beloved characters brought to life.
